Coaching Your Own Children
by Tony DiCicco, Thursday, Dec 6, 2007 11:45 AM ET

How expectations affect performance
By Eric Steege, Thursday, Nov 15, 2007 7:15 PM ET
Whether you know it or not, the expectations you form as a coach about players on your team affects not only your own behavior toward them but also the feelings and performance of those players. Having such an influence on your players’ athletic experience and development is a huge responsibility and a process every coach should understand. Here’s how the process works.

- Gold team roster is completed prior to the Silver roster.
- Selection process will include the two approved coaches, age group managers, and a league tryout panel.
- Players not selected to play at this level should be encouraged to attend Division 3 tryouts. These players may only need time and or structure to develop into future Division 1 players. Care should be taken to develop positive relationships with these players and parents for the possible future.
- Rosters finalized after spring league. Players may be moved up or down prior to fall season registration in July.
- All players involved in tryouts will be informed well in advance of the program rules.
- Informal tryouts are encouraged throughout the year. Gold team will be allowed to view the prospective player, and call player up to its team for addition to its roster.
- No new teams will be approved after teams have been formed through league sponsored tryouts.
- Team officers
- Each team will have a board of officers to help manage, and provide direction, and leadership. This group will select tournaments to attend, select rainer, and generally represent the team. Members shall include the Coahc, 1-assistant coach, Manager, and Treasurer. Any team items must be approved by this group.
- Age Group Manager
- An age group manager will be selected by the league for each gender age group. This manager will work with all the gender specific division 1 & 3 teams in the age group.
- Will be point of contact for the league.
- Will resolve issues between teams, or have final say on any disputes. Age group manager decisions may be appealed to coaching committee.
