Unleash your potential
Emphasizing growth & development.
Inspiring excellence and teamwork.
The Central Valley San Jose Youth Soccer League (CVSJ) takes a fundamentally different approach to competitive youth soccer in San Jose and the broader Bay Area. Where most clubs cycle players through annual tryouts and frequent team reshuffling, CVSJ is built on long-term consistency. Once a player is placed on a team, they stay with that team and that coach year after year. The result is a stronger sense of community, deeper teammate bonds, and the kind of steady development that only comes from sustained relationships between players, coaches, and families.
Our competitive structure reflects this philosophy. Teams progress through a tiered system — copper, bronze, silver, gold, premier, and National 1 — that mirrors their collective growth as a unit. Rather than pulling top players up and pushing others down, we move teams forward together. Each tier represents a meaningful step in a team's development, and players advance alongside the teammates they've grown with. This keeps competition healthy, motivation high, and progress measurable at every level.
It's a model designed for families who want more than a season of soccer. CVSJ is for players who want to develop seriously, compete at a high level, and do it inside a stable, supportive environment that grows with them year after year.
From recreational beginnings to National 1 competition, CVSJ offers a complete pathway for committed young players in the Cambrian, Willow Glen, and greater San Jose communities.

CVSJ: Transitioning to School-Year Age Groups
We believe that keeping our players informed and supported is key to a successful soccer experience. We want to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the upcoming U.S. Soccer age group registration changes and our club’s specific approach for the 2026-2027 season.
The New Guidelines Explained
For many years, youth soccer age groups have been determined by a player’s birth year (Jan 1 – Dec 31). Starting with the 2026-2027 season, U.S. Soccer is providing local organizations the flexibility to choose a registration cycle that best serves their community.
CVSJ will adopt a school-year calendar (August 1 – July 31). This transition better aligns youth soccer with school calendars, allowing players to play with their friends and classmates. The goal is to create more natural team dynamics and reduce the disruption of players being separated from their peers due to a birthdate cutoff.

This graphic illustrates the upcoming changes to age group determination for the 2026/2027 season, comparing the current birth-year system to the new school-year system.
