OUR Competitive YOuth Soccer Program

The Central Valley San Jose Youth Soccer League (CVSJ) stands out in the competitive youth soccer landscape of San Jose and Bay Area with its unique team and developmental philosophy. Unlike other clubs where players may frequently switch teams or face annual tryouts, CVSJ focuses on long-term team consistency and communal growth. Once players are placed on a team, they remain with the same team and coach year over year. This approach not only fosters a strong sense of community and team spirit but also enhances consistent player development under the guidance of the same coach.

Moreover, CVSJ implements a structured progression through competitive levels, mirroring the developmental stages of the players. Teams advance through various competitive tiers, such as copper, bronze, silver, and gold, which reflect their growing skills and achievements. This tiered system motivates teams to develop collectively, ensuring that player advancement is synchronized with their team's progression, rather than focusing solely on individual achievement. This philosophy supports a holistic approach to youth soccer, emphasizing both the athletic and personal growth of its players within a stable and supportive environment.

This model is particularly appealing for families seeking a consistent and development-focused soccer experience for their children.

CVSJ: Transitioning to School-Year Age Groups

We believe that keeping our players informed and supported is key to a successful soccer experience. We want to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the upcoming U.S. Soccer age group registration changes and our club’s specific approach for the 2026-2027 season.

The New Guidelines Explained

For many years, youth soccer age groups have been determined by a player’s birth year (Jan 1 – Dec 31). Starting with the 2026-2027 season, U.S. Soccer is providing local organizations the flexibility to choose a registration cycle that best serves their community.

CVSJ will adopt a school-year calendar (August 1 – July 31). This transition better aligns youth soccer with school calendars, allowing players to play with their friends and classmates. The goal is to create more natural team dynamics and reduce the disruption of players being separated from their peers due to a birthdate cutoff.

COMP SOCCER FAQs

  • Typically 2-3x per week (90min/practice)

Days/Times vary by team but are very consistent throughout the year.

  • Club fees paid during registration mainly cover membership, technical development, administration, referees, fields, league fees, staff and player passes, etc. and vary for each team based on their competitive level and age group. Central Valley Soccer Club provides a need-based financial aid program to help cover club registration fees.

    25/26 fees:

    7v7 - $842 total for both Fall & Spring

    9v9 - $908 total for both Fall & Spring

Separately, team fees are collected by the team manager or team treasurer and include tournament registration fees, team equipment, and some additional expenses such as the team's end-of-season party, coach gift, first aid kit, team bench if needed, etc. Everyone on the team must be required to reimburse the team manager or treasurer in a timely manner.

Teams individually decide on tournaments for their season. Generally, 1-3 local tournaments are played per season. The cost of the tournament may be an additional charge per family. (Note: some teams have fundraisers to offset team costs).

If the team registers for the State Cup, then the team will have additional games throughout the season and possibly travel games (up to a 4-hour drive) for the semi-final and final State Cup games.
